Wintertime in the Rockies literally turns Grand County
into a Winter Wonderland. The beauty of the snow-capped peaks,
Christmas lights lining Main Street and the stillness of the
outdoors is an invitation to take part in the fun, adrenaline
rush, and awe of the alpine lifestyle.
Skiing: Although,
downhill skiing is some of the best in the country for any ability
at Winter Park Ski Resort, Berthoud Pass offers legendary free-riding
terrain on the Continental Divide (12,240 ft) with wider runs
and no crowds. Berthoud receives a total average snowfall of
500" and has 1,200 skiable trails. Sol Vista Golf &
Ski Resort is a favorite for families with an average total
snowfall of 220" ft on 33 skiable trails. If ski areas
aren't your thing then it's time to trek to some of our many
Nordic ski areas and Cross-Country ski at Snow Mountian Ranch/YMCA
of the Rockies, Grand Lake Touring Center, Devil's Thumb Ranch
and Sol Vista.
Snowmobiling: A snowmobiler's haven
can be found in Grand County with plenty of snowmobile tracks
to be seen. The Grand Lake area has 300 miles of trails, of
which 150 are groomed. If you're ready for a thrill, head into
the hills for stunning wilderness scenery. Winter Park has great
snowmobiling too. Take a guided, or depending on your level
of experience, an unguided tour up to the Corona Bowl or the
Continental Divide and enjoy spectacular picturesque views of
the valley.
Snowshoeing: For and adventurous
spirit strap on some snowshoes and trek into the backcountry
and discover a new path all of your own. The Arapaho National
Forest or Rocky Mountain National Park are great places to snowshoe.
